This is a minor issue that most of us will have encountered when following an international recipe.<\/p>\n<p>The food and drink sector is an <strong>extremely specialised technical sector<\/strong> but it is rarely perceived as one. You might think you can improvise quantities, substitute ingredients, or use different sized tins and trays, but <strong>cooking and baking<\/strong> often requires <strong>extraordinary precision<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Ounces, grams, cups, \u201cseason to taste\u201d, and other conundrums<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Measuring ingredients<\/strong> is pretty important when it comes to making pastry. The <strong>correct conversion<\/strong> of <strong>measurement units<\/strong> is key to any successful food or drink translation, especially when it comes to <strong>confectionery recipes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is well known that even <strong>a slight variation in the quantity<\/strong> of yeast or sugar can seriously affect results, and this is especially true for <strong>baked goods<\/strong> and other creations that require a specific chemical reaction to occur between ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>So, <strong>how do you translate ounces into grams<\/strong>? It\u2019s pretty easy actually, all you need to do is<strong> multiply the number of ounces by 28.3495<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And how many grams are there in a cup?<\/strong> Unfortunately, in this case, <strong>it depends on the ingredient<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>one cup of water<\/strong> is equal to 240 grams<\/li>\n<li><strong>one cup of flour<\/strong> or <strong>oil<\/strong> is equal to 220 grams<\/li>\n<li><strong>one cup of cocoa<\/strong> is only 120 grams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And what about <strong>\u201cseason to taste\u201d<\/strong>? In this instance, no translation or measurement is able to come to the rescue of amateur cooks. \u201cSeason to taste\u201d usually just means \u201cadd a pinch of salt\u201d (and some experience and good luck to boot!).<\/p>\n<h2>Translating recipes: tackling unusual ingredients<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, the difficulties that come with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurotrad.com\/en\/translations-food-and-beverage\/\"><strong>food sector translations<\/strong><\/a> are not only limited to the measurement units used by cooks from all different eras and nations. On the contrary, some <strong>international recipes<\/strong> use <strong>very niche ingredients<\/strong> that are local to a specific country or food culture.<\/p>\n<p>However, translation is never a one-way problem. Just imagine how long it might take a Thai translator to find a good translation for a recipe containing Calabrian <em>\u2018nduja<\/em> sausage.<\/p>\n<p>The one thing we can be sure of is that <strong>literal translations don\u2019t help in the slightest<\/strong>. \u201cLittle ears at tomato with basil\u201d is a literal translation of <em>orecchiette in salsa di pomodoro con basilico<\/em> (or orecchiette pasta in a tomato and basil sauce), which doesn\u2019t sound particularly appetising, and certainly won\u2019t evoke nostalgic childhood memories in an English cook, who is probably quite unlikely to want to make an Italian dish containing little ears!<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How many ounces are there in 100 grams?
